The Ballard Boys’ Lacrosse Club (BBLC) plays in the Metro Conference of the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association of high school lacrosse teams (www.whsbla.org). The program fields a Varsity and a JV team (if we have enough players) and is organized as an ASB Club at Ballard.

Mission

The mission of the BBLC is to provide young men with an opportunity to learn teamwork, respect, sportsmanship, and leadership while improving fitness and working hard through the game of lacrosse.

Season

The Club organizes a Fall Ball season with 10 coach-led practices, and the regular season is every Spring from late February to early May.

Teams and Tryouts

  • Prior lacrosse experience is not required.
  • Selection for Varsity or JV is based on skill level, fitness, attitude and attendance.
  • Tryouts will be conducted during the first week of practices
  • There will be no cuts.
  • Full participation fee or financial assistance agreement must be collected to be eligible for tryouts.
  • Current US Lacrosse Membership must be validated to be eligible for tryouts.

Player Equipment and Uniforms

Boys will need to provide running shoes, cleats, mouth guards, a cup, lacrosse stick, gloves, shoulder pads and helmet.  The club has a limited number of loaner sticks and other equipment that can be checked out for new players.  The team uniform will consist of game jerseys and shorts, and practice pinny. Use of the team uniform is included in the registration fees.  At the end of the season the jerseys, shorts and practice pinnies will be collected and should be laundered for use the following year.

If you need assistance with equipment (sticks, gloves, pads, helmets and mouthguards) — scholarships are available!

US Lacrosse Membership

Players must also join or renew a US Lacrosse (www.uslacrosse.org) membership; the cost is $35.00 for one year—this provides our club’s liability and player insurance.  We cannot waive or fund this fee.  This is a mandatory requirement.

Player Fee

BBLC does not receive any financial support from Ballard High School or the school district.  Instead, the club is funded by player fees, proceeds from other fundraising activities, and donations. Please see our Fundraising Page for more information.  Registration fees help pay for game officials, coaching costs, league dues, uniforms and team equipment. There will be no refunds based on a player’s team assignment.

Please note that NO ONE will be turned away by inability to pay fees, acquire equipment, etc.  Please contact the team registrar (registrar@ballardboyslacrosse.com) regarding scholarships.

Acknowledgements

The Ballard High School Boys Lacrosse Team would like to acknowledge that we are on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People past and present and honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe.

We also recognize and respect that the great sport of lacrosse has its roots in Native American culture: What began as stickball, a native American Indian contest played by tribal warriors for training, recreation and religious reasons, has developed over the years into the interscholastic, professional and international sport of lacrosse.
